Select works for performance/rehearsal & practice

 

Lecture and class exercises. Playing and writing patterns to assist with learning and understanding specific rhythmic studies that are applicable to the material being studied.

 

Selected recordings of the repertoire being studied. Use of the Finale and Encore Sequencing and composing Software packages. Live performances.

Melody

Students involved in the Instrumental program will be exposed and challenged to be able to read, sing write, and play melodic materials This will include exercises and actual performance materials.

Lecture and class exercises. Playing and composing melodic lines. Analyzing melody in works being studied

APPRECIATION

Students in the Instrumental Music program will develop a heightened appreciation level for musical styles and performances, in many different areas.

Study guides program notes-performances

Students will learn to appreciate the musical performance they participate in as well as the performances they view other areas and settings. Notes| may be taken and critique discussions and lecture as well

 

Various recorded and live performances.

 

Assignments for a variety of appreciation opportunities may be given to the students for assessment of their insights & appreciation thoughts.

MUSIC HISTORY

Students in the Instrumental Music program will learn of the history of music and its development overtime. Composer and performers from many eras will be incorporated into this unit.

Research and references i.e., Harvard book of Music & Norton Scores

 

Students will be given notes on various historic items that| are of importance to works under study and rehearsal by the students.

 

Biographies, program notes, critiques, and research.

 

Assignments for research, evaluations including Tests question & answer discussion Lecture and notes.

Supplementary Texts   and   Other Instructional   Materials:

Selections for study and performance by the Instrumental ensembles including; Marching Band, Concert Band, Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and the Jazz Band will be chosen from the present music library within the music department. The library resources will be updated with new selections and additions on a yearly basis.

Other Hand outs and exercises may be composed or researched by the instructor for application to specific areas of concern. Other resources such as audio and video recordings, live performances, and editorial commentary may also be used in timely fashion for appropriate application or enrichment of standard lesson plans.
