COURSE STATEMENT

This course is a continuation of Information Technology I. The goal of this course is to give students advanced study in computer applications that are used in the business world and personal life. The course will include the study of advanced databases and presentation software. The course will also cover effective use of the Internet, career exploration, and workplace readiness skills.

 

 

COURSE PROFICIENCIES - ATTITUDES -

Ø       Students should recognize the role of computers in our society and the applications used in business and their personal lives.

Ø       Students should recognize the importance of mastering computer skills to obtain a job or advance their education.

Ø       Students should become aware of the different media available for research and acquiring information.

Ø       Students should recognize the importance of career planning and how it can enable them to obtain a satisfying lifestyle.

 

 

COURSE PROFICIENCIES - SKILLS -

Ø       To develop an understanding of advanced database applications.

Ø       To develop an understanding of advanced presentation applications.

Ø       To develop an understanding of advanced desktop publishing applications.

Ø       To develop an understanding of the functions of an integrated software package.

Ø       To develop an understanding of, and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office97: Access - database application, and PowerPoint - presentation application.

Ø       To develop an understanding of, and the ability to effectively use Adobe PageMaker.

Ø       To develop an understanding of and the ability to effectively gather information using the Internet and reference sources.

Ø       To develop an understanding of the importance of career planning and the impact it has on the quality of your life.

 

 

STANDARDS

Ø       All students should be able to describe the need for/uses of database software.

Ø       All students should be able to describe the need for/uses of computer graphics software.

Ø       All students should be able to describe the need for/uses of computer presentation software.

Ø       All students should be able to create, edit, and print a database using the all features and options of the software package.

Ø       All students should be able to create, edit, print graphics using all features and options of the software package.

Ø       All students should be able to create, edit, and print a desktop publishing document using all features and options of the software package.

Ø       All students should be able to create, edit, and display a multimedia presentation using all features and options of the software package.

Ø       All students should be able to effectively use the Internet for research, career exploration, and personal use.

Ø       Students will develop the ability and skills needed to plan, obtain, maintain and change careers.

Ø       Core Curriculum Content Standards:

Ø       Cross-Content Workplace Readiness Standards; 1:1-12 , 2:1-10, 3:1-15, 4:2-lland 5:4-5.

Ø       Creating, Editing, Presenting, Deleting Presentations

Ø       Presentation Integration and Simulation

Ø       Desktop Publishing Basics

Ø       Enhancing Desktop Publishing Documents

Ø       Advanced Features of Desktop Publishing

 

 

EVALUATION TECHNIQUES

Ø       A variety of assessment techniques will be used in the student evaluation process. Student progress will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

Ø       Unit and chapter tests

Ø       Quizzes and homework

Ø       Class projects

Ø       Class participation

Ø       Attendance/lateness as indicator of student attitude

Ø       Ability to follow oral and written instruction

Ø       Willingness to work and think independently

Ø       Ability to communicate effectively

Ø       Notebook

Ø       Final exam
