COURSE STATEMENT

In the Design/Printmaking course, students will continue to explore the elements and principles of design and their relationship to Graphic Arts. Students will be given projects that relate to their everyday use of graphic design. Students will learn to differentiate between a poor design and a strong design. Building on their knowledge from Art Fundamentals, students will continue to experiment and create unique and original designs that relate to their lives. Printmaking will be introduced through a variety of hand printing methods. Using an assortment of monoprint techniques, students will create professional looking prints that are signed and numbered. Using linoleum or wood, students will also learn how to print a short edition of prints.

 

COURSE PROFICIENCIES - SKILLS -

Ø      To make students more aware of the importance of the elements and principles of design in graphic design.

Ø      To require students to use various creative thinking processes to come up with solutions for design problems.

Ø      To allow students to work together to create large scale designs or prints.

Ø      To instruct students to professionally register and sign their designs and prints.

Ø      To introduce students to various hand printing processes.

Ø      To show students how to take pride in creating attractive displays and exhibits of their work.

Ø      Students will work together in   the   classroom to   promote   an atmosphere conducive to learning.

Ø      Students will share, care for and maintain all classroom materials pertaining to the Design/ Printmaking course.

Ø      Students will take pride in their work and in creating attractive displays and exhibits.

Ø      Students will learn a variety of Design and Printmaking techniques.

Students will be evaluated on an individual basis according to their over level of ability.
